Baltimore LC captures 3rd place at Mardi Gras Tournament winning 3 out of 4 games over the weekend of the "Great Baltimore Blizzard". BLC opened up the Tournament on Friday night in the "Big Easy" by pulling together and surging ahead in the second half to take a 6-3 win over the Flying Elvi's of Memphis Tennessee. Pat Hantske had a hand in all 6 BLC goals, scoring 4v and assisting on 2. Brad Jones scored 1 and added an assist. Gavin Stringer scored 1 goal and Rob ruff added 1 assist. Larry Williams anchored the cage with 6 saves to keep the Elvi's at bay. Game 2 on Saturday morning pitted the "hung-over" Baltimore Krewe against the always stacked Crease Monkeys Tournament Team. Starting the game with a few guys missing in action, but on the way, we let the "Monkeys jump out to a 6-2 halftime lead. Just after the start of the 2nd half, our "fresh legs" posted and we stormed back, tying the game at 7, late in the game. Unfortunately, we let them get a couple of cheap goals late and could not overcome their late surge. Final was Crease Monkey's – 11 / BLC – 8. Scoring – Bobby Lennon – 3 goals; Brad Jones – 1 goal/2assists; Bobby Hantske – 2 goals; Pat Hantske – 1 goal & Gavin Stringer – 1 goal. Larry Williams kept the game close posting 9 saves. Game 3 on Saturday afternoon, the Baltimore Krewe stormed back, thumping the "hapless hoard" from Houston by a score of 18 -0. If only we could have played these guys in the morning!!! Scoring: Gavin Stringer- 2 goals/3 assists; Bobby Lennon – 4 goals; Matt Russell – 2 goals/2 assists; Pat Hantske, Brad Jones & Mark McAlonan had 2 goals and 1 assist each; Rob Ruff – 2 goals; Bobby Hantske- 1 goal/1 assist & Dakota Turner had 1 goal. Larry Williams posted 5 saves. On Sunday, with a 2-1 record and scoring 35 goals in open competition, we drew the Maple Danglers from Brampton Ontario, Canada for the battle for 3rd place in the 2010 Mardi Gras Tournament. BLC jumped out to a 6-2 halftime lead and never looked back, beating our neighbors from up North by a final of 10-4. Scoring: Gavin Stringer 2 goals/3 assists; Bobby Lennon – 2 goals/1 assist; Brad Jones – 2 goals; Mark McAlonan – 2 assists; Josh Dulaney, Bobby Hantske, Adam Ariosa & Pat Hantske each added a goal apiece. Larry Williams kept the Canadians at bay with a 5 save performance and the defense did it's usual great job of keeping the shooter away from the goal. After learning that over 30" of snow had fallen in the Baltimore area Friday and into Saturday, most of us had to deal with the fact that we were not getting back to Baltimore very soon!!! We made the best of it and joined the "WHO DAT Nation" in rooting the Saints on versus the Colts in the Superbowl. Landing in our own "private" club, Maximo's in the French Quarter, we hunkered down and enjoyed many cold refreshments and great food for the game. Needless to say, immediately following the game, the streets of the Quarter exploded into a joyous celebration that went on all night long. We partied right along with them and most had a great time!!! A few brave souls, rented cars and drove back to Baltimore, because BWI was closed. A few were lucky to get out late Monday or early Tuesday before BWI closed for the 2nd storm and then there was just Larry & myself left. Larry got out late Thursday and I finally got out late Friday, but not without a 3 hour delay because of a snow and ice storm across the Southeast, that almost kept my plane in Atlanta.
