Team History: Baltimore Lacrosse began in the mid 1950's by a group of self-minded young men who enjoyed the competition and relationships fostered by playing with and against some of the better players who played the game of lacrosse in the Baltimore region. The Team played under many banners over the years. One of the earliest was an association with the Baltimore Athletic Club, coached by Scott Frederick, and won USCLA Championships in 1958 & 1959. During the 1960's, the club flourished with many sponsors such as Mangels-Herold (King's Syrup) as the Towson King's; and Schafer Brewing Co, as the Schafer L.C. In the 1970's, we were the Grasmick Lumbermen, sponsored by Louis J Grasmick Lumber Company. During that time, the club won several Championships in the Marbury Division of the USCLA. In the early 1980's, the team competed as the Hampshire L.C. with generous sponsorship from the John H Hampshire Co, a local building finish company. It was during this period that we became a top 4 contender in the ever-tough USCLA Southern Division. We never seemed to be able to get over the hump into the elite; always finishing 2nd to either the Maryland L.C. or Mt Washington L.C. The late 80's and early 90's saw the team growing older and the effects of age led to a drop off in performance .We fell on lean times for about 5 years. Deciding it best to regroup in the Central Atlantic Lacrosse League (now the American Lacrosse League), the team departed the USCLA after 30+ years. The Team began to pick up the pieces in 1992 with a generous sponsorship from the University of Baltimore. These teams laid a solid foundation and over the next 4 years, the team improved greatly. In 1996, we began our association with Malstrom Athletic, an athletic supply company best know for it's polar fleece and retro athletic wear line. The team, fully outfitted with some of the best swag in lacrosse, returned to the play-off picture in '98, '99, '00, '02, and '03. Malstrom was eventually purchased by Bachrach Rasin, the prominent lacrosse equipment supplier, who continued their generous sponsorship until being purchased themselves by the parent company of Great Atlantic Sporting Goods. The Team moved on and after the demise of the Malstrom sponsorship and after a few lean years began to retool its personell over the next 3 to 4 years. During this period, the Team began to see its efforts rewarded by winning Championships in the Elite-2 Bracket of the Charm City Classic in 2006 and winning back to back Championships at the Myrtle Beach Shoot-out in 2005 & 2006. In 2007, the Team forged an alliance with Native Staffing to sponsor the Team. With their generous sponsorship the Team returned to the American Lacrosse League play-offs in 2007 and captured the Division Championship in 2008 before bowing out of the play-offs in the Gray Conference Final-4. In addition to the regular season Team, Summer League and Indoor Lacrosse Leagues are an important part of finding and retaining players for the Team. Currently we play in the Howard County Mens Summer League,(June - August), and in The Baltimore Indoor Lacrosse League which begins every Fall in September. The Team continues to participate in 2-3 Tournaments a year and have been perennial participants in the Mardi Gras, Maryland State of Lacrosse,(formerly Charm City), Ocean City and the Myrtle Beach Shoot-out Lacrosse Tournaments. We are always looking for a place to travel to and spread the game while having some fun along the way.
Looking for New Sponsors: The Baltimore Lacrosse Club would like to provide area businesses with valuable exposure and access to a tightly knit community of athletes, friends, and family. Lacrosse players naturally gravitate to businesses that show an active interest in the great sport of lacrosse. Whether it be youth leagues, club teams, or tournaments. In fact, many businesses are focused on that demographic and are currently enjoying relatively little competition due to the loyalty of the lacrosse community. Baltimore Lacrosse Club can be your window to this very diverse market. Sponsorship can be in the form of equipment, money, or even beer. We can reward your sponsorship by links and graphics on this and future sites. Patches, sticks, and signs on the field are other possiblities for the exposure of your business. Anything is possible - You Name It! If you are interested in becoming a sponsor or would like more information on Baltimore / Malstrom Lacrosse, send an e-mail to Joe Daley. |
